Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility at Yearsley
As a family company we want to ensure we run our business in a transparent, responsible way.
Our business has many impacts on the environment, local communities and other groups including our employees, suppliers and customers. We realise that is important for us to manage these impacts.
To do this we are developing a CSER strategy. This will help us identify and develop ways to manage our social, environmental and economic impacts.
In line with this we are implementing an environmental management system which will be ISO 14001 accredited. This process will start at our head office in Heywood and will then be rolled out to our sites around the country.
CSER is a broad topic so we will begin our journey by looking at our biggest impacts – many of which we already taking action to manage. These include:
- Reducing travel miles – and food miles for our customers
- Reducing the energy consumption from our cold storage facilities
- Reducing our carbon footprint by minimising electricity use and travel miles,
increasing the efficiency of our vehicles and piloting renewable technologies - Protecting our employees' health and safety
- Looking at how we can provide more sustainable products in
particular fish
