Yearsley Group put Ice Warrior in Cold Storage
Yearsley Group obliged when explorer Dale McKenzie asked to spend 24 hours in their cold store at Seaham enduring temperatures around -25 ° C. Dale's ordeal was aimed at helping him acclimatise to some of the harsh conditions he will face when he journeys to the Geomagnetic North Pole.
Dale is part of the Ice Warrior 4 Poles Expedition founded by seasoned explorer, Jim McNeill, which gives complete polar novices the chance to become polar explorers and achieve the extraordinary. Their task in 2006 is to reach all four North Poles in one season including the Arctic Pole. This pole is defined as the furthest point from land at the centre of the Arctic Ocean and a mere 685 miles from the nearest coastline. No one has ever been there before!
Shifting Ice and hungry polar bears will be hazards for our intrepid explorer in the Arctic. The only shifting he saw at Yearsley Cold Store were the 3000 pallets despatched or received at the depot in any 24 hour period. The only hungry bear he saw was the cold store manager Michael Nolan at lunchtime.

John Ainsley, General Manager at Yearsley Group's Seaham Cold Store, “This is one of the strangest requests for storage that we have had, but when we learned of Dale's request we were willing to play a part in helping him with his aims. Dale was in his tent in the cold store for 24 hours. During this time we kept a close eye on him every hour, a luxury I suppose he will not have in the Arctic! “
About Ice Warrior Project
Ice Warrior is a project involving a series of world record setting polar expeditions undertaken by comprehensively trained novices, selected from an annual public call for volunteers. Harking back to the golden era of polar exploration when there were no “polar experts” to call upon, Ice Warrior expeditions are purposeful modern-day explorations involving educational, scientific, geographical and charitable aspects.
Ice Warrior is a non profit organisation conceived in 2001 by Queen's Fire Officer and seasoned Arctic explorer Jim McNeill, which reaches out to all echelons of society and all walks of life. It is wholly supported by corporate sponsorship.
